Urban Harvest desires to make hearts glad in the spread of God’s fame, through the gospel of Jesus Christ, from Urban North Little Rock to the ends of the earth.
PHILOSOPHY OF MISSIOLOGY:
SPREADING OUR ULTIMATE PURPOSE
(Our Explanation of Spreading)
1st Precept of Missions
We maintain that God’s missionary enterprise is founded on the excellent confidence that God shall draw to Himself, without fail, those from every people group, whom the Father has given to His Son and whom the Son has purchased with His own blood (Jn 6:44, 6:65, Rev 5:9).
2nd Precept of Missions
We maintain that every born again soul engages the spiritual harvest in going or sending, at home and abroad, for the advancement of God’s glory and the expansion of God’s kingdom (Mt 5:13-16, Jn 3:21, Acts 1:8, Acts 4:19-20,1 Pet 2:9,3Jn 5-8).
3rd Precept of Missions
We maintain that authentic worship is the motive for biblical outreach and missions, so that proclaiming the Excellencies of Christ is merely an overflow of one’s own delight in God (Isa 6:7-8, Ps 51:10-13, Ps 67:1-2, Ps 92:1-4).
4th Precept of Missions
We maintain that authentic worship is the aim of biblical outreach and missions, so that the praise of God might become glorious in the hearts of others (Ps 66:1-2, Ps 67:1-4).
5th Precept of Missions
We maintain that God’s word is God’s designated means for spreading God’s fame (Mt 28:19-20, Mk 13:10, Mk 16:15, Jn 17:20-21, 2 Thess 3:1-2).
6th Precept of Missions
We maintain that God has made successful spreading depend upon prayer to glorify God’s power in our weakness (Eph 6:18-20, 2 Thess 3:1).
7th Precept of Missions
We maintain that God’s chosen missionaries are themselves eternally enriched, by their Heavenly Father, in all of their going labors (2 Cor 1:24).
8th Precept of Missions
We maintain that the prayers and provisions of the sending church both benefit the missionary and strengthen the affections of the sender (Eph 4:12).
9th Precept of Missions
We, therefore, maintain that an intentional and strategic vision for church-planting and missions is an indispensable element of a healthy local church, even in its earliest stages.
10th Precept of Missions
And we maintain a sober expectation of hostile resistance, from the world and mere religious organizations, to all sincere spreading efforts (2 Thess 3:2).
VALUES OF MISSIOLOGY
(Our Expectations for Spreading)
- Overflowing Worship
We value the glowing joy of personal delight in God as necessary for demonstrating the attractive nature of the gospel we preach (Mt 5:14-16, Acts 2:46-47, Tit 2:10).
- God-Centered Compassion
We value the awe-inspiring prospect of God-centered theology rejoicing a diverse and downtrodden community (Mt 9:35-38).
- Christ-Exalting Risks
We value gospel witness in a diverse and downtrodden area to be a public statement on the infinite worth of Jesus Christ displayed in wise risk-taking (Phil 3:7-8).
- Magnified Grace
We value the pursuit of an urban context for the transforming power of God’s grace in people that appear most impossible to transform (Mt 9:12-13, Mt 21:31-32).
- Enlarged Love
We value God’s increase of uncommon love, in our own souls, by our intersection with visibly depraved people in dark neighborhoods (Mt 5:43-48).
- Contagious Joy
We value vibrancy spreading to partnering churches that are mobilized by God in the spiritual harvest of destitute sinners (2 Cor 1:24).
- Unscripted Utterance
We value the potential impact of Christ, through the feeblest utterance of truth, in the spontaneous natural settings of daily life (Mk 4:26-29).
- Hopeful Sowing
We value collective prayer, over the smallest seeds sown, to cultivate other-oriented hearts that long for the “seed of life” to germinate (Lk 18:1, 8).
- Mobilized Passion
We value a sense of ownership, in outreach initiatives, that corresponds with one’s unique gifting and calling (1 Peter 4:10).
- Diverse Unity
We value the display of God’s unique ability to cross ethnic and cultural boundaries, in the power of the gospel, to create unity amidst diversity (Eph 2:13-16).
- Global Expansion
We value global-minded missions by praying for and pouring resources into other Christ-exalting ministries at home and abroad (Jn 17:18-21, 3 Jn 5-8).
- Life-Giving Loss
We value the sending out of church-planters and missionaries as essential for the renewal and edification of the sending church (Eph 4:11-12, 3 Jn 5-8).
- Crossing Cultures
We value cross-cultural ministry, as preliminary training, for foreign missionaries who will go to unreached people groups (Mt 5:43-48).
- Community Presence
We value community projects that promise constructive and relational longevity for the purpose of gospel spreading (Mt 9:35, 1Thess 4:10-12).
- Providential Platforms
We value the shrewd and innocent use of venues and initiatives, which already exist in the community, for the spread of the gospel (Mt 10:16, Rom 16:19).
- Organized Outreach
We value the superior love of God exclusively shared among true believers and uniquely displayed in the world through collective outreach (Jn 13:35).
